Fourteen people in India sentenced to life imprisonment for cryptocurrency extortion case

ChainCatcher news, according to The Block, the Indian anti-corruption court has ruled on a cryptocurrency extortion case from 2018, sentencing 14 defendants to life imprisonment. Notably, among the defendants are 11 police officers and a former legislator.
In the case, the victim Shailesh Bhatt was lured to a gas station and then kidnapped, subsequently being forced to pay a ransom of 34 bitcoins (approximately $150,000). A total of 172 witnesses were summoned during the trial, but 92 of them changed their testimonies.
It is worth mentioning that the victim Bhatt himself is currently being prosecuted by law enforcement for allegedly kidnapping a BitConnect promoter, and the case is still ongoing.
