ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, Dutch and U.S. law enforcement have shut down the online fake ID trading platform VerifTools, which sold forged documents for as low as $9 in cryptocurrency, seizing 23 servers in the operation.

The FBI estimates that the market has generated approximately $6.4 million in revenue. Dutch authorities estimate that VerifTools has an annual turnover of about €1.3 million (approximately $1.5 million), making it one of the largest providers of fake identification documents in the world.

The market operates by requiring users to upload passport photos and input false data, after which the website operators use this data to generate fake identification documents. FBI agents were able to order a fake driver's license from New Mexico and pay for the forged ID using cryptocurrency—although the specific cryptocurrency used has not been determined.
