ChainCatcher news, according to Decrypt, the Seoul police in South Korea recently dismantled a multinational hacking group and arrested 16 suspects. The group stole personal information of wealthy individuals by hacking into government and financial institution websites, and used forged phone numbers to bypass security systems, stealing funds from victims' bank and cryptocurrency accounts, with the total amount involved reaching $28.1 million.

Although the group collected data on 258 notable individuals, including 28 cryptocurrency investors, 75 corporate executives, 12 celebrities, and 6 athletes, it is reported that the actual thefts targeted only 26 individuals, whose account balances totaled $39.8 billion (55.22 trillion Korean won). However, the hackers stole cryptocurrency from 16 of the victims, with the largest single cryptocurrency theft amounting to $15.4 million (21.3 billion Korean won). Financial institutions successfully intercepted another 10 theft attempts targeting $18 million.

BTS member Jungkook's Hybe Entertainment stock account was the target of a $6.1 million attempted theft, which was thwarted due to abnormal monitoring by the bank system and intervention by the brokerage firm. The police have frozen and returned $9.2 million of the stolen funds through rapid response measures.
