According to Jinshi reports, the President of the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Yu Weiwen, stated after the Financial Affairs Committee meeting on February 2, 2026, that they are evaluating applications for stablecoin licenses, aiming to issue the first batch of stablecoin issuer licenses in Hong Kong by March 2026. Yu Weiwen emphasized that the number of initial licenses "will definitely not be many," and that the licensing is "aimed at stability." The Monetary Authority has requested some applicants to provide additional application materials in order to make a licensing decision as soon as possible.
