MoonPay President: Meme Coins Will Revive in a New Form

According to Cointelegraph, MoonPay President Keith Grossman believes that meme coins have not disappeared; their core innovation lies in the low-cost tokenization of attention, breaking the monopoly of platform-based attention economies. He pointed out that before crypto technology, only platforms, brands, and a few influencers could monetize attention, while the value created by ordinary users, such as likes and trends, was captured by centralized platforms.

Data from CoinGecko shows that meme coins were the best-performing category of crypto assets in 2024, but were severely impacted in Q1 2025 due to multiple collapse events. A meme coin issued before Trump's inauguration plummeted over 90% from $75 to $5.42; the Libra token endorsed by Argentine President Milei collapsed, with 86% of holders losing over $1,000 in a single transaction, triggering calls for investigation and impeachment.

Grossman likened the current pessimistic forecasts to the misjudgment following the burst of the early 2000s social media bubble, believing that meme coins will be revived in a new form.
