According to Forbes, global leading crypto mining company Bitfury Group recently completed a $12 million strategic investment in the decentralized AI computing network Gonka.ai, subscribing to 20 million GNK tokens at a price of $0.60 per token. Gonka.ai was founded by serial entrepreneurs the Liberman brothers, aiming to build a blockchain-based distributed GPU computing market. This investment is Bitfury's first public investment following the establishment of its $1 billion ethical AI fund, indicating that traditional mining companies are systematically laying out their strategies in the decentralized AI infrastructure sector.
According to public data, Gonka's network has surpassed 5,000 equivalent computing power of NVIDIA H100 series GPUs, while supporting nearly 20 mainstream AI devices including 3080, 4090, H100, and H200, forming a distributed computing cluster that is expected to break the monopoly of NVIDIA and cloud service providers, significantly reducing AI development costs. Previously reported, Gonka completed an $18 million financing in 2023, with investors including Coatue Management, a backer of OpenAI, Slow Ventures, K5, and several partners from Insight and Benchmark. Early builders also include several well-known industry institutions such as 6 Block, Hard Yaka, Gcore, and Hyperfusion.
